UV polymerization is a process of forming linear or crosslinked, high molecular mass polymer structures from low molecular mass monomers under the illumination of ultraviolet light (usually 365 nm longwave ultraviolet light). The UV polymerization is a process of monomer polymerization in the presence of a photoinitiator. The photoinitiator absorbs UV radiation of 300–400 nm. Therefore, it dissociates into radicals that initiate the polymerization of monomers with a defined structure.
The UV polymerization has been widely used in the preparation of polymer-based photoactive systems that are used in the paint, coating, adhesive, and printing industries, for obtaining composite materials and optical fibers, and in microelectronics. The UV polymerization is also used in applications like laser video drives, curable dental fillings, the production of 3D objects, the production of biomaterials used as bone in tissue engineering, and obtaining photosensitive materials and microchips.
The UV polymerization process has many advantages.
● The UV polymerization is simple, fast, and energy efficient. The UV polymerization allows us to obtain different types of polymers with predetermined or unique physico-chemical properties in a short time.
● The UV polymerization does not require the use of additional solvents.
● The UV polymerization can be carried out at ambient temperature and does not require special temperature control.
The UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L is a powerful source of UV radiation dedicated for UV polymerization reactions. With a microprocessor controlled UV sensor feedback system, UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L measures the UV intensity in real time and automatically stops once the programmed energy/time level is reached. Using UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L, you can complete UV polymerization in just a few steps!
1). Prepare samples: mix monomers, photoinitiators, and other reactants in a certain proportion.
2). Put samples into the UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L. Wear the supplied UV protective glasses XP-100.
3). Select the mode, specify the UV energy or time, press "START" to expose samples to controlled amount of UV radiation. Note: start with low UV energy, repeat multiple times to determine an appropriate value.
4) After UV Polymerization, turn off the UV Crosslinker. Store the unit in a dry environment and avoid direct sunlight.
● The UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L has three modes (time mode, energy mode, and preset mode) to accomodate different experimental requirements.
● Equipped with 6 high-quality 8-watt UV tubes, UV Crosslinker XEPU-1208L provides uniform, stable, and intense ultraviolet radiation for UV polymerization.
● A spacious irradiation chamber of 32 x 26 x 15 cm can accommodate multiple samples for UV polymerization reactions and increase experimental efficiency.
● The door is safety interlocked to prevent accidental user exposure to UV light.
