Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (EGFP)

Enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) is a widely used variant of GFP. Compared with wild-type GFP, EGFP is brighter and matures rapidly at 37°C. EGFP is a powerful tool for the visualization of tagged proteins and transfected cells in molecular and biological research.

To detect EGFP fluorescence, the first step is to learn the excitation and emission wavelength of EGFP. Based on the spectrum of EGFP fluorescent protein, choose a fluorescence detector that has an appropriate excitation wavelength for EGFP. As shown in the following figure, EGFP can be excited by the 488 nm laser line and is optimally detected at 507 nm.
