When observing fluorescent proteins, many students are worried that the fluorescence expression is too weak to be detected by the naked eye. Also, some laboratories do not have darkrooms, which making it more difficult to observe fluorescent proteins in a desired environment.

● If there is fluorescence expression but the fluorescence is very weak, try a more intense excitation lamp. Generally, the higher the excitation intensity, the stronger the fluorescence expression.

● Secondly, if the laboratory does not have a darkroom and the ambient light is too bright to meet the requirements for fluorescence observation, try a portable fluorescent protein observation cabinet (recommended model: GFPfinder-2106).

The standard set of the Portable Fluorescence Cabinet GFPfinder-2106RB includes a portable fluorescent protein observation cabinet, a 450nm high-power fluorescent protein excitation lamp, and a yellow fluorescence viewing filter. This set can used to excite, observe, and screen transgenic animals, plants, and callus tissue samples with green fluorescent protein (GFP, eGFP).

1. Fluorescence Cabinet

The fluorescence cabinet is made of black, opaque, and non-fluorescent material, providing a portable small darkroom that replaces traditional darkrooms. You can observe fluorescence anytime and anywhere, without worrying about ambient light! In front of the cabinet, there is a black shading cloth which shields off extraneous light when the operator is screening samples.

2. High-power Fluorescent Protein Excitation Lamp

The excitation lamp has three sets of high-power LEDs, controlled by three independent switches. The operator can turn on all three sets or any one or two sets of LEDs. We recommend turning on all LEDs to create a stronger excitation light which can illuminate all samples evenly.

3. Fluorescence Viewing Filter

The specially designed filter matches with your chosen excitation wavelength. The filter avoids interference from other light sources, making it easier to detect the emitted fluorescence.
